Criterion 508 Solutions, Inc. Launches New Section 508 Compliance eLearning Courses

Des Moines , Iowa March 1, 2006 - Criterion 508 Solutions, Inc.

Criterion 508 Solutions, Inc. announced today that it has developed and released a series of eLearning courses focused on teaching participants about Section 508 compliance and accessibility testing and repair. Criterion's Accessibility Academy of suite eLearning courses are designed to provide IT project managers and IT developers with the training necessary to create Section 508 compliant and accessible online applications, websites and/or electronic PDF documents and fillable forms.

“Criterion’s eLearning experts, instructional designers and Section 508 compliance auditors worked closely together to create this exceptional educational suite of Section 508 specific eLearning courses,” explained Criterion President and CEO, Anna Bradley M.S, Ed.S. “These courses are designed to meet the increasing demands by government agencies, universities and corporations for eLearning-based training focused on the technical aspects of Section 508 compliance and accessibility testing and repair.”

According to Bradley, “Increasingly, corporations and universities are facing civil lawsuits over the fact that their online services and content are simply not accessible to people with disabilities.” Bradley continued, “Most federal IT vendors already know that they must comply with Section 508 accessibility standards as required by the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). But corporate America and other organizations have been slow to grasp the demographic trends in this country that has, and will continue to, dramatically increase the number of American’s with disabilities.”

Criterion's Accessibility Academy eLearning Courses Include:

Understanding Section 508 Technical Standards §1194.22

Course Overview: This course explains how to interpret and apply Section 508 standards §1194.22 to Web-based Intranet and Internet information and applications. It identifies each provision, provides a corresponding plain language interpretation, discusses the five categories of disabilities, identifies a variety of assistive technologies and engages the learner with a project scenario. Participants will learn about Section 508 §1194.22 provisions and their importance to IT project management and federal contract compliance.

Testing and Repair Techniques for Section 508 §1194.22 Compliance

Course Overview: This course explains how to interpret, apply, test and repair Web-based Intranet and Internet information and applications based upon Section 508 §1194.22 standards. Course information identifies each provision, provides a corresponding plain language interpretation, discusses various types of disabilities, explores assistive technologies and engages the learner with a real project scenario. Participants will learn technical accessibility testing and repair techniques so they can design and repair existing web-based information and applications.

Accessibility Testing Techniques Using JAWS 6.2

Course Overview: This course is geared toward the testing and development professional who wants to add an extra dimension to his or her accessibility testing processes. One of the major issues when incorporating assistive technologies into the accessibility testing process is the lack of understanding about how to correctly use such products. When an IT developer does not fully understanding how to use assistive technology, then accessibility testing will likely result in false positives or false negative results. This course is designed for accessibility testers who do not have a visual disability but need to know how to effectively use the JAWS® screen reader to test a variety of online content.

PDF Accessibility Testing & Repair

Course Overview: This course describes how to test and repair the most common accessibility issues found in PDF documents and fillable forms using Adobe Acrobat Professional. The first half of the course focuses on basic PDF document accessibility testing techniques. The second half of the course addresses advanced forms auditing. Since form fields are interactive, these PDF elements require additional modifications to ensure accessibility.
