This course is geared toward the testing and development professional who wants to add an extra dimension to their accessibility testing processes. One of the major issues when incorporating assistive technologies during accessibility testing is the lack of understanding about how to correctly use the product. If a tester does not fully understanding how to use assistive technology, then the accessibility testing will likely result in false positives or false negative results. This course is designed specifically for individuals without a visual disability and it teaches participants how to effectively and efficiently use the JAWS® screen reader to test a variety of content elements.

This course teaches participants how to test and repair the most common accessibility issues found in PDF documents and fillable forms using Adobe Acrobat Professional. The first half of the course focuses on basic PDF document accessibility testing techniques. The second half of the course addresses advanced forms auditing. Since form fields are interactive, these PDF elements require additional modifications to ensure accessibility.

This course explains and provides step by step instructions on how to create more accessible Microsoft Word 2003 documents. The principles of creating a logical document structure can be transferred to other applications and document design. By creating more accessible “source documents” there are fewer repairs when these documents are repurposed to tagged PDF. Creating more accessible Word documents also lets people using adaptive technology navigate them more efficiently and effectively.
